Gama Filho University, university in Brazil
Gama Filho University was a private institution in Rio de Janeiro that operated from 1939 until 2014. Located in the Piedade neighborhood in the city's north, the campus offered higher education programs in law, health sciences, education, and technology.
The university originated in 1951 from the Colégio Piedade founded by Luiz Gama Filho. Its sports teams became known in the 1970s, and by the 1980s it had grown to about 30,000 students before financial difficulties led to its closure in 2014.
The former campus buildings stand abandoned in Piedade and are not open to the public. The site remains in poor condition with deteriorating structures, making it unsafe to visit.
Its medical school was the largest in Brazil at the time and attracted students from across the country. Today, abandoned laboratory spaces with remnants from anatomical training stand as reminders of the institution's former prominence.
