Fort Copacabana, Military fortress in Copacabana, Brazil
The fortress contains two armored cupolas equipped with massive Krupp cannons positioned strategically at the southern end of Copacabana Beach.
The military base, completed in 1914, protected Rio de Janeiro's harbor entrance during global tensions of the early twentieth century.
The Army Historical Museum presents exhibitions focusing on Brazilian military developments from Colonial times through 1945 in two permanent halls.
The fortress opens Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with entrance fees of 6 Brazilian reais for adults.
The bunker walls measure 12 meters thick and contain an intricate gear system for operating gun turrets and transporting artillery shells.
