Lins de Vasconcelos, Residential neighborhood in North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Lins de Vasconcelos is a residential neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro's North Zone located between the Méier and Engenho de Dentro districts. The area comprises twelve communities with residential blocks, municipal schools, healthcare facilities including a naval hospital and maternity hospital, and various public amenities.
The area was originally part of the Engenho Novo dos Jesuítas estate, where a colonial-era path used by travelers eventually became Lins de Vasconcelos Street. The neighborhood was officially established in 1981 as a distinct administrative division.
The neighborhood is home to two samba schools, Lins Imperial and Unidos do Cabuçu, whose first championship victory at the Sambódromo in 1984 remains part of local pride. These groups continue to be central to how the community celebrates its traditions.
The neighborhood has good access to schools, childcare centers, and hospitals that serve daily community needs. Getting around the area is straightforward with these facilities distributed across the different communities within the district.
The neighborhood was developed on the land of former quilombos including Encontro, Cachoeirinha, and Cachoeira Grande, which remain part of the district today. These communities represent an important layer of Rio's past that many visitors overlook.
