Gávea Planetary

Gávea Planetarium is a stargazing facility in Rio de Janeiro featuring multiple theater spaces and a 23-meter dome where sky shows are projected. The complex also includes a museum with interactive exhibits about astronomy and libraries with subject materials.

The facility opened in 1970 under the original name Planetário do Rio and was renamed in 1993. This change marked a transition in its role as a center for astronomy education in the city.

The facility is named after the Italian philosopher Giordano Bruno, whose work explored the cosmos and infinity. Visitors can spend time in the libraries, which hold collections focused on astronomy and Rio's local heritage.

The location provides free parking for visitors and is close to multiple bus lines and metro stations. The site is easy to access and well-connected to the rest of Rio de Janeiro.

The Cosmic Museum houses more than 60 hands-on experiments developed by staff to explain astronomical concepts in an interactive way. Visitors can try these experiments themselves and grasp how natural phenomena work.
