Castelinho do Flamengo, Cultural center in Flamengo District, Brazil.
Castelinho do Flamengo is a three-story mansion featuring a striking blend of Italian Renaissance, Art Nouveau, Neo-Baroque, Rococo, and French Neo-Gothic elements, adorned with decorative tiles and stained glass windows. The structure was meticulously designed and now serves as a space for cultural activities and exhibitions.
Italian architect Gino Coppedè designed the building in 1916 for Portuguese entrepreneur Joaquim Silva Cardoso, with Brazilian architect Francisco dos Santos completing construction in 1918. The mansion emerged during a period when Beira-Mar Avenue was among Rio's most prestigious addresses.
The mansion houses a cultural center that offers theater workshops, art exhibitions, and a media library, where visitors can explore contemporary artists and local creative initiatives. The spaces are regularly used for events and performances that shape the cultural life of the neighborhood.
The building houses various spaces for events and exhibitions, including the Lumière auditorium and individual areas for activities. Visitors should note that accessibility and opening times may vary depending on current events and programs.
The entrance gate displays an Art Nouveau butterfly design in wrought iron, marking the structure as one of the final remaining mansions from the original Beira-Mar Avenue. This detail exemplifies the craftsmanship and attention to detail woven throughout the building.
