Museu Casa da Hera

Museu Casa da Hera is a mansion in Vassouras with social spaces, private rooms, and business areas that contain dozens of windows. The structure combines different functional zones under one roof, showing how a wealthy family managed both household and commerce.

The house was built in 1840 by coffee commissioner Joaquim José Teixeira Leite and remained in family hands for generations. The family played a central role in the region's coffee trade and commerce throughout the century.

The mansion displays furniture and clothing from the 19th century that reflect how wealthy coffee families lived and dressed. Walking through the rooms, you see the daily choices and tastes of a prosperous Brazilian family.

The estate sits in central Vassouras with gardens, fruit trees, and covered walkways to explore throughout the grounds. It is easy to reach on foot and offers several routes through the rooms and outdoor areas.

The exterior walls have been covered with ivy since 1897, giving the entire structure a green appearance and explaining the museum's name. This long-standing planting has shaped the building's character for over a century.
