Piumhi

Piumhi extends across 902 square kilometers of land in western Minas Gerais, positioned at an elevation of 922 meters above sea level.

The municipality of Piumhi was officially established in 1868, deriving its name from indigenous language meaning either river of many fish or water of many flies.

Agricultural traditions shape the local identity, with over 1,000 rural producers cultivating coffee, rice, beans, and corn across 68,000 hectares of farmland.

State highway MG-050 connects Piumhi to major cities, with Belo Horizonte located 264 kilometers away and medical facilities available for resident care.

The city sits near the Furnas reservoir and 50 kilometers from Serra da Canastra National Park, which contains the source of the São Francisco River.
