Capela de Santa Luzia, Catholic temple in historic center of Vitória, Brazil.
The Chapel of Saint Lucy stands upon mortared stone masonry foundations, featuring a rectangular nave with simple architectural elements on its front facade.
Built in 1537 as a private chapel for Duarte de Lemos, the first resident of Santo Antonio Island who received the land from captain Vasco Fernandes Coutinho.
The structure functioned as the Museum of Sacred Art from 1950 to 1970, followed by its role as an Art Gallery for the Federal University.
Located at Rua Doutor Azambuja corner with Rua José Marcelino in Centro district, the chapel opens to visitors after extensive restoration works completed in 2019.
During renovations in 2005, workers discovered nineteenth-century paintings hidden within the wooden ceiling and walls of this oldest building in Vitória.
