Teixeira de Freitas, Regional commercial center in southern Bahia, Brazil.
Teixeira de Freitas is a municipality in the southern region of Bahia, located along the federal highway BR-101 and serving as a commercial and service hub for the surrounding area. Streets run in a grid through the center, where shops, banks, and offices concentrate.
The area developed from the 1960s as a road junction point when the timber industry began settling in the region. Emancipation from the neighboring municipality occurred in the mid-1980s, giving the place its current administrative form.
The name honors a former governor of Bahia from the 20th century. Residents use the city as a shopping destination for the entire southern Bahia and northern Espírito Santo region.
The center can be crossed on foot and most services sit close together in a few main streets. Visitors find accommodation and restaurants mainly along the through road and in the central zone.
The city sits at the border of three states and therefore attracts shoppers from Bahia, Minas Gerais, and Espírito Santo. Merchants know the city as an important distribution point for goods throughout the southern Bahia region.
