Morro do Moreno

Morro do Moreno is a protected hill in Vila Velha that rises 184 meters above sea level, covered with Atlantic Forest vegetation. Multiple trails traverse the terrain and offer views over the coastline and surrounding landscape.

During Portuguese colonial times, the site was used as a defensive position against English attackers. Historical records show that fire tactics were deployed to repel an invasion attempt.

The hill's distinct sections have earned local nicknames based on its shape, which residents use in their everyday speech. Walking through the area gives visitors insight into how the landscape shapes local identity and how people relate to their surroundings.

The hill is accessible year-round and can be explored on foot, by mountain bike, or by off-road vehicle. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and bring plenty of water, as trails vary in difficulty depending on the season.

Hidden beaches with natural swimming pools and views of the Santa Luzia Lighthouse lie at the base of the hill. These secluded spots are not immediately visible and are often overlooked by visitors who only explore the upper trails.
