Lucas do Rio Verde, Agricultural municipality in Mato Grosso, Brazil.
Lucas do Rio Verde is a municipality in the northern part of Mato Grosso, around 350 kilometers from the state capital. The town is surrounded by wide croplands and has a dense network of paved roads leading to surrounding farms.
The area was settled in the 1980s by colonists from Rio Grande do Sul who sought new land for grain farming. The administrative structure was established in 1988 when the growing settlement was declared an independent municipality.
The name of this town comes from the river that runs through the region and was once navigated by gold prospectors. Today modern grain silos and agricultural warehouses shape the townscape, while residents gather in public parks and sports fields on weekends.
The BR-163 connects the municipality with larger cities to the north and south, making it easy to arrive by car. The local airport offers connections to regional destinations, while the town provides basic services for travelers.
The municipality developed from a small settlement into one of the most productive agricultural zones in Brazil within three decades. Many of the first pioneer families from the south still live here and continue to run their farms.
