Zoológico do CIGS

Zoológico do CIGS is a facility on natural terrain in Manaus housing over 200 animals from the Amazon region, including jaguars, macaws, and black panthers. The grounds combine animal observation with educational programs designed for visitors of all ages.

The facility was founded in 1967 by the Brazilian Army as part of a jungle warfare training center. It evolved from military roots into an institution supporting both armed forces training and scientific research on Amazon species.

The education center displays interactive games and exhibits focused on Amazonian wildlife and their behaviors in the region. You can explore how local communities have understood and interacted with these animals throughout time.

The grounds are easy to explore on foot with adequate pathways for observing animals at different locations. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and prepare for the high humidity typical of the region.

From elevated concrete walkways, visitors observe jaguars roaming in their natural environment within the grounds. This arrangement allows safe viewing while keeping the animals undisturbed in their typical behavior.
