Jorge Amado Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Ilhéus, Brazil
The Jorge Amado Bridge stretches 533 meters across Pontal Bay with two main towers reaching 80 meters in height and a width of 25.30 meters.
The Government of Bahia initiated construction on March 28, 2014, and the bridge officially began operations on July 1, 2020, connecting multiple regions of Ilhéus.
The structure bears the name of Jorge Amado, a Brazilian author born in Ilhéus who wrote extensively about northeastern Brazil through novels and literary works.
The bridge incorporates dedicated lanes for vehicles and a separate path for cyclists, supporting the BA-001 highway system and improving regional transportation.
The postmodern architectural design features cable-stayed engineering principles with structural elements that reflect contemporary Brazilian infrastructure development.
