Itacaré

Itacaré is a coastal municipality in Bahia situated about 70 kilometers north of Ilhéus, stretching along the Atlantic Ocean. The area features white sand beaches and dense tropical forests spread across eight distinct neighborhoods.

The settlement was founded in 1732 as Vila de São Miguel da Barra do Rio de Contas and served Jesuits in converting Pataxó and Tupiniquim tribes. This early foundation shaped the area for centuries and left marks on the local structure and population.

The local population shows a mix of indigenous, African, and European heritage, visible through capoeira performances and regional celebrations held throughout the year. This cultural blend shapes daily life and creates a lively community with its own traditions.
