Nazaré is a municipality in Bahia's Recôncavo region, located about 110 kilometers from Salvador. The Jaguaripe River flows through its center while it shares borders with five neighboring municipalities.
Portuguese settlers founded a settlement on the Jaguaripe River banks during the second half of the 1500s. The colony was established in an area previously inhabited by the Tupinambá people.
People here depend on palm oil production, cachaça distilling, and pottery making, skills passed down through families. Fishing remains central to how many residents make their living.
