Toca da Boa Vista

The cave extends through 114 kilometers of passages within dolomite bedrock, forming an intricate network of chambers and corridors beneath the surface.

Scientists discovered this cave formation in 1987, leading to extensive mapping projects that revealed its status as South America's largest cave system.

Research teams have excavated over 50,000 prehistoric bones from the cave, including remains of extinct mammals that lived in the region 20,000 years ago.

Visitors require professional guides and climbing equipment to access any of the nine cave entrances, which include vertical drops and complex navigation systems.

The cave contains a six-meter-long bone of an ancient giant sloth, alongside numerous other paleontological specimens preserved in its chambers.
