Araripina, Administrative municipality in Pernambuco, Brazil.
Araripina is a municipality located in the Sertão region of Pernambuco state, situated on elevated terrain at around 600 meters (2000 ft) above sea level. The town spreads across a dry landscape with local architecture adapted to the semi-arid climate.
The municipality was founded in 1928 and grew from a small settlement into an administrative center for the region. Growth came through agricultural expansion and the discovery and extraction of valuable minerals.
The community is built around farming practices that have been passed down through families, with locals raising goats, growing beans, and processing manioc as central parts of daily life and identity.
The area is served by a local airport and bus connections link the town to neighboring municipalities in the region. The cooler season offers more comfortable conditions for visiting, as the rainy period can bring humid weather.
The region contains roughly 95 percent of Brazil's gypsum reserves, making it the country's primary source of this raw material. This mineral extraction has shaped the local economy and landscape significantly.
