São Benedito

São Benedito extends across 350 square kilometers of land in northeastern Brazil, positioned at an elevation of 902 meters above sea level.

The region, initially named Rio Arabê, began its development in 1604 when Portuguese explorer Pero Coelho de Souza established control over the territory.

The indigenous Tapuias were the original inhabitants of the area, forming the first settlements along the Rio Arabê before the arrival of European colonizers.

The municipality maintains direct bus connections to major cities in Ceará, with regular services to Fortaleza, Limoeiro do Norte, and Aracati throughout the week.

The São Benedito Matrix Church, constructed in 1850, replaced an earlier structure built by native inhabitants in 1759 using mud walls and palm fronds.
