São Benedito

São Benedito is a municipality in Ceará state in northeastern Brazil, situated on elevated terrain where the landscape rises gradually from the surrounding plains. The terrain features rolling hills typical of the region's semi-arid geography.

The territory was originally known as Rio Arabê when it came under Portuguese control in the early 1600s through colonial efforts. This early period of colonization established the foundations for the area's development.

The settlement takes its name from Saint Benedict, reflecting the spiritual importance that shaped community life and values. This connection appears in local customs and the way residents relate to religious traditions today.
