Heroes' Acre, National war memorial near Windhoek, Namibia

The Heroes' Acre spans 732 hectares and features a white obelisk rising against the Auas Mountains, with 174 burial plots for national heroes.

President Sam Nujoma established this memorial in 2002 after visiting Zimbabwe, marking the anniversary of Namibia's 1966 armed liberation struggle beginning.

The memorial hosts annual ceremonies where national leaders and foreign dignitaries place wreaths at the Eternal Flame to honor freedom fighters.

The memorial includes a 5,000-seat grandstand, viewing pavilion, restaurant, and security personnel who maintain the grounds throughout operating hours.

North Korean company Mansudae Overseas Projects constructed this monument in 13 months at a cost of 60 million Namibian dollars.
