Sanderburg

Sanderburg is the smallest of three castles in Windhoek and sits on a hillside overlooking the city. The building was constructed in the early twentieth century and remains in private ownership with limited public access.

The castle was built between 1917 and 1919 under architect Wilhelm Sander's direction. It was constructed during a period when German architectural influence was strong in Namibia.

The castle displays European design choices that were popular in early twentieth-century Namibia. Visitors can see these style elements reflected in its visible structures today.
