Moltkeblick

Moltkeblick is a mountain summit in Namibia's Khomas region and reaches nearly 2,480 meters as the second highest peak of the Auas Mountains. The slopes feature rocky terrain with natural habitats and varied vegetation across different elevations.

This peak received its name during the German colonial period and has kept this designation since then. The naming reflects the historical presence of German settlers in the region.

Herding traditions shape the landscape around this peak, where cattle graze on the slopes across different seasons in patterns passed down through generations. The sight of animals on the mountainside reflects how local communities have lived with the land.

The mountain sits on private property and visits require advance permission from River Crossing Lodge, which is located about seven kilometers from the base. Planning your ascent ahead ensures smooth access to the area.

Mountain zebras and rock dassies are regular inhabitants of these slopes and often appear during the hike to the summit. Encountering these animals on the way up adds a wildlife dimension to the climbing experience.
