KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden, Botanical garden in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
The 52-hectare garden contains 40 hectares of natural vegetation and 12 hectares of landscaped areas with indigenous plants from eastern South Africa.
Founded in 1874 by the Pietermaritzburg Botanical Society, the garden initially focused on growing trees for distribution throughout the Natal colony.
The Useful Plants Section displays numerous plant species traditionally utilized by the Zulu people for medical and daily purposes.
The garden maintains regular hours from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily, with earlier closing times at 5:30 PM during May through September.
The garden records more than 180 bird species and maintains specific areas designed to attract different types of local birds.
