Ingwelala, Private wildlife reserve in Limpopo Province, South Africa.
Ingwelala is a private wildlife reserve in Limpopo Province that spreads across a large area along the Nhlaralumi River. The property borders both the Umbabat Nature Reserve and Kruger National Park with no fencing between them, allowing animals to move freely across these protected areas.
The reserve was formed by combining four farms named Argyle, Buffelsbed, Goedehoop, and Si Bon, each registered under different ownership structures for conservation purposes. This consolidation created a larger protected area that allows unrestricted animal movement.
The name comes from the local language and means "the place where the leopard sleeps", reflecting the strong presence of these big cats throughout the reserve. Visitors often spot them during early morning and late evening hours when they are most active.
The reserve is located roughly an hour south of Hoedspruit and is best reached by private vehicle or organized transfers. Visitors should start game drives early in the morning or at sunset when animals are most active, and bring binoculars for spotting distant wildlife.
Members have access to tennis courts and swimming pools directly within the reserve, an unusual feature for a wildlife protection area. The property offers outdoor dining in rustic bomas where visitors can watch nocturnal animal activity at night.
