Sacred Heart Cathedral is a brick church on Aiglon Hill, built from 700,000 to 800,000 bricks fired on site in 18 months. Its facade has a wide pointed-arch doorway flanked by smaller pointed arches, a row of narrow arched openings, and a square tower with a pyramidal spire, clock and cross. The interior nave has a pointed vault of pale grey-blue panels divided by thin ribs, white columns and dark wooden benches facing the altar.

The cathedral was built in the late 1800s under the direction of architect Prosper Philippe Augouard and represents a milestone in the religious development of Central Africa. It has endured through the decades and remains one of the oldest surviving religious structures in the region.

The cathedral serves as a spiritual center for the Catholic community in the city and remains a focal point for religious gatherings. People visit to pray, attend services, and participate in sacraments that mark important moments in their lives.
