Brazzaville Zoo

Brazzaville Zoo is an animal facility in the city center that houses hundreds of species from Congo Basin forests and wetlands. The grounds contain separate sections for primates, birds, reptiles, and other wildlife found across Central Africa, each displayed in enclosures built for observation.

During the civil conflict of the 1990s, the zoo undertook an unusual mission to protect its residents. Staff coordinated the movement of many animals to sanctuaries across neighboring countries, a remarkable effort that demonstrated international cooperation in conservation.
