Praia da Barra

Praia da Barra is a coastal beach with white sand and coconut palms stretching along the Indian Ocean, offering calm waters and gentle waves suitable for swimming. The shoreline provides ample space for relaxation and water activities throughout its length.

The area served as a key trading post for Arab merchants beginning in the 10th century before Portuguese traders arrived in the 1500s and established new commercial networks. This shift brought lasting changes to the region's economic and social structures.

The community depends on the ocean for its livelihood, with fishing families working the waters daily and selling their catch at local markets and restaurants along the shore.

The beach is accessible year-round, with the most comfortable conditions for swimming from April through October when water temperatures are warmest. Bring sun protection and check local conditions before entering the water.

Dugongs inhabit the waters offshore, making this one of the few places in Mozambique where visitors might encounter these rare marine mammals in their natural habitat. Spending time on the water increases the chances of observing them.
