Migori County, Administrative division in southwestern Kenya
Migori County is an administrative region in southwestern Kenya that encompasses several settlements with Migori town as its main center. The area borders other Kenyan counties as well as Tanzania and Lake Victoria to the east.
This region became a separate administrative county in 2013 when Kenya reorganized its governance structure following a new constitution. Before that, the area functioned as a district within a larger provincial system.
The area is home to Suba, Joluo, Kuria, and other communities whose traditions shape daily life and local customs. You can experience this mix of people in the markets, neighborhoods, and the way residents celebrate their heritage.
Several hospitals are distributed across the region and serve residents in different town centers and surrounding areas. When visiting, plan for travel time between locations since the county covers a substantial territory.
Alongside farming, small-scale gold mining occurs in parts of the region as an economic activity. A large sugar company operates here and provides employment for thousands of workers and their families.
