Strawberry Hill Farm & Gardens

Strawberry Hill Farm & Gardens is a historic property with a Victorian Georgian house, several garden areas, and preserved agricultural buildings spread across about 6 acres. The grounds show how rural living and working were organized during the early colonial period.

The property was established in 1827 when European settlement began at King George Sound. It is the oldest still-operating farm in Western Australia.

The place gets its name from the strawberries cultivated here from the start. Visitors can see how the gardens follow traditional patterns and how different parts of the property reflect the life of the Spencer family.

The property is located on Middleton Road and is accessible to visitors on most days. It helps to wear sturdy shoes since the routes go through gardens and across the grounds.

Charles Darwin and Captain Robert FitzRoy of the HMS Beagle visited the property during their research journey to Western Australia. The visit of these two important naturalists and seafarers connected this location to major scientific discoveries of the 1800s.
