Lake Dendam Tak Sudah, Crater lake in Singaran Pati, Indonesia.
Lake Dendam Tak Sudah is a crater lake in the Bengkulu region of Indonesia, set among forested hills in the Singaran Pati area. The water sits in a natural basin and is surrounded by dense vegetation that closes in on most sides, giving the lake a sheltered feel.
The area around the lake was set aside as a nature reserve in 1936 during Dutch colonial rule, as part of early efforts to protect the surrounding forest. After independence, the protected zone was expanded to cover a larger stretch of woodland and wildlife habitat.
The lake's name translates roughly as 'Unfinished Grudge', and it comes from a local legend about two lovers whose story ended in tragedy on the water. Visitors today often come knowing this story, which gives the place a quiet emotional weight that goes beyond its natural setting.
The lake is a short ride from central Bengkulu, reachable by minibus from the city. Going early in the morning gives you the best light on the water and the chance to see the area before it fills with other visitors.
At sunrise, the water takes on a reddish color because of how light hits the minerals in the lake. This is most visible on clear mornings when the sun is still low and its rays reach the surface at a flat angle.
