Yayasan Amai Setia is a museum in Koto Gadang that displays handwoven textiles, pottery, and traditional musical instruments from the Minangkabau region. Local artisans who work here share their knowledge and techniques with visitors.

Roehana Koeddoes founded it with Rekni Putri and Hadisah on 11 February 1911 as Kerajinan Amai Setia, a craft school for women teaching machine sewing, embroidery, crochet and weaving. In 1923 it opened a nijverheidsschool (industrial school), which closed in 1942 with the Japanese occupation. It now operates as a foundation for silversmiths and embroiderers.

The exhibits show how women held central roles in Minangkabau society through their craftsmanship and everyday practices. These displayed objects remain part of how the community understands itself today.

The museum is located right where the artisans work, so you can watch them creating pieces and ask questions about their methods. Spending extra time here lets you understand the crafting processes better.
