Yallingup

Yallingup is a small coastal settlement built on steep hillsides facing the Indian Ocean with white sand beaches and natural limestone cliffs. The village spreads along the shoreline near the Margaret River region, showing layers of rock formations and cave openings throughout its landscape.

European explorers discovered the extensive cave network here in 1899, which sparked regional development and tourism growth. This finding led to the building of visitor facilities and increased settlement in the area.

The name comes from the Wardandi Aboriginal language and means 'place of caves', showing how the indigenous people understood this landscape through its geological features. Walking through the cliffs and caves today, you can sense this ancient connection between people and the land.

You can reach the main beach from a central car park with cement stairways leading to viewing platforms and the water's edge. The terrain is hilly, so walking around involves some climbs and descents throughout the area.

The Yallingup Reef creates specific ocean conditions that produce consistent surf waves for water sports. This natural formation attracts surfers and ocean enthusiasts throughout the year.
