Lake Richmond spans 77 hectares of freshwater surrounded by native bushland, reaching depths of 15 meters near the Indian Ocean coast.
The lake formed approximately 4,000 years ago when coastal changes separated it from Cockburn Sound, creating an isolated freshwater basin.
Indigenous communities have maintained connections to Lake Richmond for thousands of years, utilizing its resources for sustenance and traditional practices.
The Anne Mueller Environmental Walk offers a 3-kilometer loop trail around the lake, with access points at Safety Bay Road and Lake Street.
The lake contains a three-hectare colony of thrombolites, ancient microbial structures that represent some of Earth's earliest life forms.
