Mount Henry Bridge, Railway and road bridge system in Perth, Australia
Mount Henry Bridge is a dual concrete structure spanning the Canning River and connecting Mount Henry Peninsula to Mount Pleasant. The structure carries three traffic lanes in each direction, two railway tracks, and separate pathways for pedestrians and cyclists.
Construction of the original bridge began in 1979 and opened to traffic in 1982. A major expansion followed in 2006 to meet growing traffic demands across the Canning River.
The bridge shows how the river divides and connects the city. People use the pathways alongside it to cross from one shore to the other while enjoying views of the water.
Visitors can use the pedestrian and bicycle paths on either side to cross the river and explore the area. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon when light is optimal and traffic is lighter.
The 2006 expansion used a technique called incremental launching to build a new structure that partially overlaps the original bridge. This method allowed traffic to continue flowing across the old bridge throughout the construction work.
