Blue Waters, Perth, Art Deco residence in Como, Western Australia
Blue Waters is a residential building in Como designed in the Art Deco style located along Canning Highway. The structure features curved glass windows and geometric forms that reflect architectural influences from 1930s Florida.
The residence was built in 1954 by Mabel and Keith Perron, requiring the construction of a brickworks to address post-war material shortages. It received heritage protection status in December 1994.
The residence served as a gathering place for Perth's social scene and hosted fashion photography sessions over the years. Visitors can still sense the social energy in its spacious, well-designed rooms.
The building sits on a busy location along Canning Highway, so exterior photography is best done from the public walkways nearby. Keep in mind this is a private residence and public access to the grounds is limited.
The curved glass windows and frames were imported from the United Kingdom because Australian manufacturers could not produce them at the time. These imported components became a defining feature that set the residence apart from contemporary local buildings.
