Kensington Bushland

Kensington Bushland, Nature reserve in Town of Victoria Park, Australia

Kensington Bushland is a nature reserve covering around 9 hectares of land between the Swan and Canning Rivers, preserving original vegetation and animal habitats. The site sits on Bassendean soils and displays various native plant species in their natural setting.

The area was designated by the state as a Bush Forever site and is now protected. This official status secured the remaining urban woodland for future generations.

The site displays typical jarrah-banksia woodland with native species like Eucalyptus marginata and Banksia attenuata that shape the place visually. These plants are part of the local landscape that residents value for reconnecting with the region's natural character.

The site has walking paths, picnic areas, and a car park accessible from Etwell Street in Kensington. Dogs on leashes are welcome, making visits with pets straightforward.

The site hosts Nuytsia floribunda, known as the Western Australian Christmas tree, which stands out with striking yellow flowers at certain times. This parasitic plant is native to the region and draws attention during its blooming period.
