Shenton House, Heritage site in Crawley, Western Australia.
Shenton House is a two-story Georgian building featuring verandas that wrap around its exterior, situated on the grounds of The University of Western Australia. The structure remains within the campus landscape and continues to serve the university's educational mission.
Built in 1846 as Crawley Park House, it later took the name of Sir George Shenton, who was a Member of Legislative Assembly. The building went through several functional transitions as the surrounding university developed and expanded.
The house now supports the School of Indigenous Studies and serves Aboriginal students pursuing higher education at the university. It has become a space where indigenous voices and knowledge are centered within the academic community.
The building sits on the university campus and can be accessed along the main pathways through the grounds. Since it remains an active academic space, visitors should be respectful of campus guidelines and operating hours.
When first built, it stood as the only residence in the surrounding area for many years, making it a notable landmark during the early settlement. This solitary position changed dramatically as the campus expanded around it decades later.
