The Kids' Bridge, Pedestrian bridge at Perth Children's Hospital, Australia
The Koolangka Bridge is a footbridge that connects Perth Children's Hospital to Kings Park across Winthrop Avenue. The structure spans about 217 meters long and 3 meters wide, serving as a direct passage between the medical center and the park.
The project was conceived in 2012 during planning for Perth Children's Hospital and construction began in early 2021. It was completed later that year to provide quick access to outdoor spaces for young patients.
The bridge carries the Noongar name Koolangka, which means children and honors the Aboriginal heritage of Western Australia. This naming reflects a direct link to the region's indigenous culture.
The crossing is open daily for patients, families, and staff to reach the park easily. The access is level and straightforward to navigate, making it suitable for people with mobility needs.
The bridge features bright rainbow colors that came from suggestions by a Children's Advisory Committee. This design makes the path to the park feel special for young visitors.
