Alkoomi Wines, Family wine estate in Frankland River, Australia
Alkoomi Wines is a vineyard spread across 105 hectares in Frankland River within Western Australia's Great Southern wine region, producing varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling. The operation runs two tasting venues: the cellar door on Wingebellup Road and a location in Albany.
Merv and Judy Lange founded the estate in 1971, planting their first vineyard area and harvesting their initial wine in 1976. This couple established the foundation for what the property would become in the region.
The name Alkoomi comes from Aboriginal language and means a watering place, connecting the estate to the region's traditional Minang people. This heritage remains woven into how the place is experienced today.
The property works best to visit during growing season and harvest months when vines are active and most activities take place. Both locations are straightforward to reach, one set in a rural area along a road and the other located in town.
The property includes four private chalets positioned about 500 meters from the vines, offering direct views out to the vineyard rows and surrounding land. These structures allow guests to stay immersed within the wine landscape itself.
