Saint Mary's Church

Saint Mary's Church stands near the Swan River and features a rectangular structure with stained glass windows from 1903 and an adjoining historic graveyard. The building seats around 150 people and is surrounded by headstones marking the graves of early settlers.

The present church building was completed in 1869 and replaced an earlier mud-brick octagonal structure designed in 1840 by Magistrate TN Yule. This transformation reflected the growth and development of the early settlement.

The graveyard holds burials of early pioneers from the Swan Valley region, including Lucy Yule, the first person laid to rest here. These graves reflect the lives of the first European settlers who shaped the area.

Visiting the church requires advance arrangements made through the Anglican Diocese of Perth. It is best to contact them beforehand to confirm access and suitable visiting times.

A memorial lych gate from 1959 marks the entrance in honor of Dr. John Ferguson and Isabella Ferguson, who shaped the local community from 1859 onward. This structure shows appreciation for their contributions to the region.
