Lake Leschenaultia

Lake Leschenaultia is a recreational lake in Chidlow featuring natural shorelines and clear water set at an elevation of 265 meters, suitable for swimming and water activities. Walking and cycling trails circle the water, while picnic areas are distributed around the shore.

The lake was built in 1897 as a dam to supply water to steam trains traveling through the region. After approximately 50 years this function ended, and the site gradually transformed into a recreational destination.

The lake takes its name from the native Blue Leschenaultia flower found in the surrounding area. This connection to local plants remains visible today and shapes how the place is understood by those who visit.

The site offers camping facilities, equipment rental for canoes and paddleboards, and equipped picnic areas for visitors. The paths around the water are accessible and suitable for different fitness levels and interests.

The reservoir holds around 520 million liters of water and carries official recognition as a heritage site, highlighting its place in local history. This status allows visitors to experience both the recreational and historical dimensions of the location.
