Beelu National Park

Beelu National Park, Nature reserve in City of Kalamunda, Australia.

Description

Beelu National Park is a nature reserve spanning about 3000 hectares of jarrah and marri woodlands near Perth. The Helena River cuts through the landscape, creating habitats for western grey kangaroos and Carnaby's cockatoos alongside native plants and trees.

History

The reserve took its current name in 2008 in recognition of the Beelu Whadjuk Noongar people and their ancestral ties to the woodlands. This naming acknowledged the traditional owners and their long history of connection to this country.

Culture

The name honours the Beelu Whadjuk Noongar people who held deep connections to this country for countless generations. Walking through the woodlands, visitors encounter a landscape that holds profound meaning for these traditional inhabitants.

Practical

The park offers several walking trails of varying difficulty, mountain biking routes, and a visitor centre with rest areas and facilities. Come prepared for changeable weather and bring sturdy shoes and plenty of water.

Did you know?

In spring, the South Ledge and Golden View Lookout points reveal sweeping vistas across the Helena River Valley to distant water catchments. On clear days, visitors can spot the historic Mundaring Weir engineering structure far below in the landscape.
