Chippers Leap, Historical granite outcrop at Greenmount Hill, Western Australia

Chippers Leap is a granite formation along Great Eastern Highway near the boundary between Swan View and Greenmount suburbs. The outcrop rises approximately 8 meters above the roadway and features a historical marker explaining its significance.

In 1832, settler John Chipper reportedly jumped from this rock to escape danger and ran several kilometers to the Governor's residence. The incident became a notable episode in early colonial Western Australian history.

The site represents the complex relations between European settlers and Aboriginal peoples during the early colonization period of Western Australia.

The site is easily visible from Great Eastern Highway and accessible from the nearby suburbs. An information plaque is available on location to read about the historical event.

The granite formation survived multiple road construction projects since the 1930s, with authorities altering their plans to protect this site. This demonstrates how the local community valued the historical significance of the rock.
