The Castle Hotel features traditional architectural elements including a red brick facade, medieval-style tower, crenellation, arched windows, and arrow slits throughout its structure.
Established in 1853 by Samuel Craig, the Castle Hotel holds the distinction of being Western Australia's oldest operating inland hotel, constructed using labor from the York Convict Hiring Depot.
The hotel served as the central meeting point for the York Agricultural Society and received visits from notable figures, including Governor Sir Frederick Weld in 1869.
Located 98 kilometers from Perth via Great Southern Highway, the hotel provides air-conditioned rooms, a bistro, swimming pool, and conference facilities for modern travelers.
The royal coat of arms discovered during 1989 renovations remains preserved on the dining room wall, marking the historical connection to colonial governance.
