West Lampung is an administrative regency in Lampung province spanning mountainous terrain with fifteen districts and numerous villages spread across the area. The capital city of Liwa serves as the main administrative hub for the region.
The region became an independent regency in 1991 after being separated from North Lampung, gaining its own administrative structure. Later territorial changes occurred in 2012 when a southwestern portion was detached to form a separate regency.
The people here maintain weaving traditions, particularly the Tapis cloth created with supplementary weft techniques that display patterns deeply rooted in local identity.
Reaching the area requires traveling through mountainous terrain where road conditions can vary. Visitors should plan accordingly and explore local transportation options available in the region.
The local economy revolves significantly around growing Robusta coffee, cocoa, and spices including cloves and pepper that define much of daily life here. These agricultural products sustain most of the employment in the communities throughout the territory.
