Lampung

Lampung is a province in southern Sumatra with coastal areas along the Sunda Strait and mountainous inland terrain. The region connects flat coastal zones with higher landscapes and varied environments.

The region came under European control in the 19th century and became an important center for pepper cultivation and maritime trade. This economic importance shaped the province's development for many decades.

The Lampung people maintain their own identity through traditional writing systems, ornate textiles called tapis, and hand-crafted silver objects. These crafts remain visible in daily life and shape the cultural character of the region today.

The capital Bandar Lampung connects to Jakarta through regular ferry services across the Sunda Strait and serves as a transport hub. Access is relatively straightforward, especially when traveling on established routes.

The Way Kambas National Park runs a specialized protection program for endangered elephants in their natural setting. Visitors can observe these animals in a safeguarded habitat and learn about their conservation efforts.
