Dirgantara Monument, Bronze monument in Pancoran, Indonesia
The Dirgantara Monument rises at the intersection of two major roads in South Jakarta and reaches a height of 11 meters (36 feet). The bronze sculpture shows a human figure in an upright position with arms spread away from the body, as if lifting into the air.
President Sukarno commissioned the work in 1964 to honor Indonesian Air Force members and aviators who fought against Dutch colonial rule. The monument rose during a period when the country emphasized independence and national achievements.
The figure bears the name manusia angkasa and represents the country's aviation story. Visitors see a symbol that connects Indonesian identity with the rise of flight and aerospace.
The monument remains visible from several viewing angles despite elevated toll roads built nearby. It serves as a helpful reference point for anyone moving through this part of the city.
The entire bronze structure weighs 11 tons and required assembly in sections, with each section weighing about one ton during construction. This assembly method called for special lifting equipment and precise coordination at the site.
