Slamet Riyadi, Military commander in Surakarta, Indonesia.
Ignatius Slamet Rijadi commanded the 26th Regiment of Indonesian forces, leading military operations across Central Java during the independence struggle.
During Operation Product in 1947, Rijadi directed Indonesian troops through multiple battles in Ambarawa and Semarang regions against Dutch colonial forces.
The traditional Javanese ritual of symbolic child selling led to his name change from Soekamto to Slamet, following local healing practices.
Rijadi developed his military expertise through education at Dutch schools and later at a Japanese naval academy, which shaped his tactical approach.
While leading an operation to suppress a rebellion in Ambon in 1950, Rijadi sustained fatal injuries from a bullet that ricocheted off a tank.
