Museum Perumusan Naskah Proklamasi

Museum Perumusan Naskah Proklamasi, Independence museum in Menteng, Indonesia

The Museum of the Drafting of the Proclamation Text is a three-story colonial building in Menteng that blends Art Deco elements with high ceilings and detailed window frames. The rooms are furnished with original pieces and historical documents from the period when Indonesian leaders formulated the declaration.

Built in 1920 as the British Consul General's residence, the building later came under Japanese control when Admiral Tadashi Maeda made it his headquarters during World War II. After the war ended, Indonesian leaders used the premises to develop their declaration of independence.

The building holds the memory of a pivotal moment when Indonesian leaders gathered here to shape their nation's independence. The rooms display furnishings and personal objects from that period, allowing visitors to sense how people moved and worked in these spaces.

Visitors should prepare to explore the exhibition mainly on foot, as the building is arranged across multiple levels with narrow stairs between floors. It is wise to wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time for a leisurely walk-through to view all the rooms and exhibits properly.

The study room preserves the original desk where founders Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta wrote the text of the independence declaration on August 16, 1945. This piece of furniture creates a moving connection for many visitors to this historical moment.
