Kunstkring Art Gallery, Art gallery and restaurant in Central Jakarta, Indonesia.
Kunstkring Art Gallery is a two-story building with Dutch colonial architecture in Central Jakarta, featuring high ceilings and large windows facing Menteng district. The ground floor houses a restaurant serving Indonesian food, while the upper level displays contemporary art collections and antique furnishings.
The building opened in 1914 as headquarters for the Fine Arts Circle of the Dutch East Indies, designed by architect Pieter Moojen. From 1950 to 1997 it served as the Immigration Office before restoration returned it to its original cultural purpose.
The place preserves its connection to the Dutch colonial era and now functions as a space for contemporary art exhibitions and cultural events. Visitors can explore the architecture while discovering current artistic works displayed throughout.
The building contains two distinct areas with different functions, making it easy for visitors to move between dining and viewing art. Plan to spend time on both levels, as the art collections and restaurant atmosphere are equally worthwhile.
The building was long known as the Immigration Office, a function many visitors would not expect when they see the cultural space today. This transformation shows how the place evolved from administrative purpose to artistic refuge.
