Kuningan Timur is a business district in the south of Jakarta made up of office towers, shopping centers, and residential buildings. Wide boulevards and pedestrian paths connect the different parts of the area.
The area was mostly farmland until the 1980s, when Jakarta's rapid growth pushed development southward. It gradually became one of the main locations for corporate headquarters in the city.
The streets around the office towers fill up at midday with workers looking for a quick meal, and many of the restaurants serve food from different parts of Indonesia. You can find dishes from Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi all within a short walk of each other.
The district is well served by buses and taxis along the main roads, and parking is available for those arriving by car. Broad sidewalks make it possible to walk between most of the office and shopping buildings without crossing heavy traffic.
